Taxonomic name resolution - gfö NFDI workshop at the gfö Macroecology meeting 2024#
The scripts presented here were created and first presented at the gfö NFDI workshop at the gfö Macroecology meeting 2024. They show how to resolve taxonomic names of plants and animals, relying mainly on the GBIF data and API (https://www.gbif.org/).
Specifically, the name parsing script shows the pre-processing and cleaning of names to increase later name-matching, and the taxonomic name resolution and vernacular name matching scripts show how to resolve both scientific and vernacular names. Additionally, users learn how to check and change the encoding of their current workspace, repair the encoding of their data, and create scripts suited for parallel processing.
